Sentence types and structures

A Complete sentence must follow these 3 rules:

• It contains at least one subject and verb
• It expresses and complete thought
• It begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop

Clauses: is a part or piece of a sentence. It must contain a subject and a Verb

• Subject must be a noun and a pro noun.

Sentence can be made of one or more clauses, these can be dependent and independent

• dependent: A Clause that cannot stand alone as a sentence. S+ V

  • Because I said so
  • If you pass the test

  Very much not complete in meaning, it will read like something is missing or to be added to it to make it complete.

• Independent: A clause that can stand alone as a sentence. It is formed with clause connector + S+V

  • Our planet revolves around the sun.
